OK, so maybe five months away doesn't really count as "around the corner", but it's never too early to start thinking about JPDS-NC's biggest community-wide event! The 2012 Purim Ball will be held on March 11, 2012, and the event chairs and Advancement Office are already busy making all sorts of lists and calls and arrangements. But in order to make this event a smashing success, we need help from YOU, the JPDS-NC parents. Please come to the volunteer kick-off meeting on Wednesday, November 2 at 7:00 PM, at the home of Laurie Moskowitz and Steve Rabinowitz. The address is 3010 Ordway Street, NW, Washington, DC 20008 (Cleveland Park). We'll have light refreshments and some fun, Purim-ready cocktails. Veteran parents, new parents, big jobs, small jobs - WE NEED YOU! And while you're impatiently counting the days until the kick-off meeting, you can start thinking about the various ways you can help out:
• Soliciting donation items: Drumming up gift certificates, theater tickets, restaurant
meals, and jewelry - anything you can get for free that people will buy - all proceeds go to the school. We don't only need big-ticket items (though we LOVE those). Also, services and treats provided by JPDS-NC parents, friends, and alumni are always big sellers! And it's never too early to start collecting.
• Auction Chairs: Choose an auction category (Judaica, For the Home, Just for Kids,
Only in DC, etc.) and brainstorm with your team about the fabulous items you'll bring in.
• Class Art: If you're handy with a glue gun or glitter, you can help our kids create a
priceless collectible that some lucky class parents (or grandparents?) will love to take home and proudly display.
• Ad Journal: Graphic and editing software gurus can help with layout and ad creation.
• Auction Catalog: Writing juicy descriptions of auction items, as well as catalog
• Decorations: Centerpieces, signs, etc. We're planning on a really cool theme this
year, which should make for some fun decoration ideas!
• Auction set-up: worker bees during the event itself - preparing the auction tables,
distributing items won, category "watching," etc.
Every volunteer can make a huge difference, and your kids will thank you! (OK, that second part may not be true.) Please join the Purim Ball team! Email any or all of the chairs to RSVP for the November 2 meeting. (If you can't make the meeting but still want to help, let us know that too.) Even better: let us know if you have an idea of HOW you'd like to help! By the way, you don't have to wait to start getting donations! If you already have some ideas, or if you happen to find yourself speaking with a restaurant manager or store owner, make sure you have some donation forms (PDF) handy. We'll take completed forms ANYTIME! Your 2012 Purim Ball chairs, Lisa Schreier [email protected][email protected]
