There are IMPORTANT changes to dispensing ETP1 prescriptions on your ETP2 accredited RxWeb system from the previous ETP1 accredited pharmaSys system. This document highlights some of the changes you will come across post upgrade. It is important to note that changes in processes are because it is now an ETP2 system. The system for the dispensing of “Electronic Prescriptions (release 1 or 2) has had to comply with Connecting for Health’s (now known as HSCIC) design model and rules. It is vital to note that you MUST have an ETP2 SmartCard to dispense Electronic Prescriptions If you have necessity to dispense either ETP1 or ETP2 prescriptions, you must use an ETP2 As RxWeb is an ETP2 system, ETP1 cards will NO longer function. If you only have an ETP1 SmartCard you will not be able to dispense ETP1 prescription’s on RxWeb. Previously on ETP1, SmartCards were allocated per site (as well as Pharmacist’s). This would enable the generic site card (or Pharmacist card) to be logged on ONE terminal, then ETP1 could On ETP2 RxWeb, you will not be able to dispense electronically from multiple terminals off one As ETP2 is all about individual cards, per person (Pharmacists & Dispensers). Anyone accessing the system should be using their own card when carrying out ETP functionality. Therefore it is important to note you will only be able to carry out ETP dispensing on a terminal So – If you wish to carry out ETP functionality on 4 terminals, you will need 4 cards and 4 You will of course be able to carry out non-ETP functionality on any terminal with or without a ETP1 Dispensing changes on the RxWeb ETP2 system. HOME SCREEN FUNCTIONALITY ON ETP PRESCRIPTIONS You will no longer be able to repeat an ETP1 prescription as a manual script, which could be done You will no longer be able to create an owing or fulfil an owing on the front screen as you could previously on the pharmaSys ETP1 system. As each ETP dispensing requires dispensing messages to be sent to the spine. Any changes to a prescription must be made via the QUEUE button. You can however now EDIT an ETP1 prescription once dispensed. This is something you couldn’t previously do. This must also be done via the QUEUE button. CHANGING OF PRESCRIBED QUANTITIES ON DISPENSING A common issue with ETP1 dispensing was the sending of prescriptions to the spine with the quantity in PACKS and not UNITS. This was an issue caused by the GP system. e.g. They would send 1 x Ventolin inhaler, when in fact what they should have sent 200 dose ETP deals in UNITS and not PACKS. The GP systems that did this were advised to correct this However on the pharmaSys ETP1 system, if you received a prescription with a quantity in packs, you could amend the prescribed quantity into units. On the RxWeb ETP2 system the prescribed quantity cannot be amended. This is by design as If you receive a prescription where this is the case, you would be best advised to dispense manually. Otherwise entering a higher dispensed quantity will mean that the prescription will still be endorsed with the prescribed quantity and will have to be manually altered. If your GP system is sending you a lot of prescriptions with quantities in packs, it may be worth speaking to them as this may be user-error at their end and could be rectified. If it is an issue in their ETP1 GP system, it may be worth advising them as you now have an ETP2 dispensing system, you cannot amend there prescribed quantities and encourage them to upgrade ETP1 PRESCRIPTIONS FAIL TO DOWNLOAD CORRECTLY On an ETP2 accredited system such as RxWeb, Electronic Prescriptions downloaded from the spine have stringent validation checks they have to pass to enable them to be dispensed. On an ETP1 system, prescriptions were allowed to download without having to pass the same validation ETP1 Dispensing changes on the RxWeb ETP2 system. For Example – An ETP1 prescription sent via an ETP1 GP system missing AUTHOR ADDRESS (GP Address) will now fail the validation checks, and you will not be able to dispense this script. You can of course as you have the paper prescription dispense this manually. Once the GP upgrades to an ETP2 system, they should not be able to send messages to the spine without specified criteria that is checked in the validation processes. So moving forward this ETP1 Dispensing changes on the RxWeb ETP2 system.
