This leaflet will tell you about Clarityn Allergy Syrup. It should give you all the informationyou need, but if there is anything you do not understand please ask your doctor or yourpharmacist. What is in Clarityn Allergy Syrup?
The syrup contains 5mg of the active ingredient, loratadine in each 5ml (about oneteaspoonful) as well as the following inactive ingredients : propylene glycol; glycerin;sucrose (granulated); citric acid; sodium benzoate (E211); peach flavouringEach bottle contains 100ml syrup. What type of medicine is Clarityn Allergy Syrup?
Loratadine, the active ingredient in the syrup, is a non-sedating antihistamine. It can help relieve the symptoms of some allergies. Who makes it ?

What is the medicine used for ? Clarityn Allergy Syrup is rapidly absorbed and can relieve allergy symptoms such assneezing, runny nose and itchy, burning eyes, whether these are due to hayfever or whetherthey occur all year round.
Clarityn Allergy Syrup may also be taken for allergic skin conditions such as rash, itching orurticaria (hives). Is there any reason why you shouldn’t take this medicine?
If you have ever had an allergic reaction to Clarityn Allergy Syrup or any of its active orinactive ingredients you should not take it.
You should not take it if you are pregnant or think that you are pregnant or if you arebreast-feeding.
Children aged under 2 years should not take Clarityn Allergy Syrup.
If you are having skin patch testing to identify allergies stop taking this medicine at leasttwo days before the tests. Before taking Clarityn Allergy Syrup
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have severe liver problems.
Each 5ml dosage of Clarityn Allergy Syrup contains 3g of sucrose whichmay result in a maximum daily intake of 6g of sucrose. This should be taken into account in patients with diabetes mellitus. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intoleranceto some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicinal product. May be harmful to the teeth.
You do not have to avoid drinking alcohol whilst taking Clarityn Allergy Syrup. Driving and Clarityn Allergy
Tests have shown that Clarityn Allergy Syrup does not cause drowsiness in the vast majorityof sufferers and therefore will not normally affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. However, as with all antihistamines, there may be very rare exceptions and care should betaken when the syrup is used for the first time. What is the dose ?
Adults and Children over 12 years: Swallow two 5ml spoonfuls once daily.
Children aged 2 to 12 years, weighing more than 30kg: Swallow two 5ml spoonfuls once daily.
Children aged 2 to 12 years, weighing less than 30kg: Swallow one 5ml spoonful once daily.
If you have severe liver problems you may need to take the recommended dose every otherday. Ask your pharmacist or doctor if you think that this applies to you.
As a guideline, the average 9 year old weighs approximately 30kg. Check your child’s weightif you are not sure what it is.
The syrup should not be given to children aged under 2 years.
Do not take more than the recommended dose. What to do if you forget to take your medicine
If you forget to take your syrup, take your recommended dose as soon as you remember,and then carry on as before. Do not double up for the missed dose. What you should do in the case of an overdose
If you, (or someone else) accidentally takes too much Clarityn Allergy Syrup by mistake, you should contact your doctor immediately. Does this medicine have any undesirable effects ?
Most people can take this medicine without any problems, but sometimes you may noticesome side effects which may include :
headache, nervousness and fatigue, in children.
drowsiness, headache, increased appetite, difficulty in sleeping, in adults.
very rarely, severe allergic reactions (difficulty in breathing, wheezing, itching, hives andswelling), dizziness, fast heart beat, palpitations, nausea, dry mouth, upset stomach,changes in liver function, rash, hair loss and tiredness.
If you are worried by these or any other side effects, you should discuss them with yourdoctor or pharmacist. Expiry Date

Store between 2°C and 30°C in the original container. As with all medicines, keep out of thesight and reach of children. Any other questions ?
